Tiger Zinda Hai: Film Review – Bhai Roars

Verdict: Bhai is swag personified in this action-thriller.

If Eid is synonymous with Salman Khan, Aamir Khan made Christmas his own by releasing most of his films during that time. But this year, Bhai took both the festive slots for himself. Tubelight, which hit theatres for Eid this year, had Khan play a simpleton and now he’s back at what he does best in Tiger Zinda Ha. Does this sequel to Ek Tha Tiger live up to the hype? Hell yeah!

What’s Tiger Zinda Hai About:

Set eight years after where Ek Tha Tiger ended, the film begins with 40 nurses (25 Indian and 15 Pakistani) being taken hostages by terrorists. The US wants to bomb the hospital but the Indian chief requests for a week’s time to free the Indian nurses. There’s only one man who can complete this tricky task – Tiger (Salman Khan). He may have left the RAW for a settled life with his wife Zoya (Katrina Kaif) and their son but is still ready to give his all for his country. Joining him on the mission are Kishanji (Kumud Mishra), Navin (Angad Bedi), and two other agents. Later on, Zoya and a few Pakistani soldiers become a part of the rescue team. Just before the interval, the Indian and Pakistani agents join forces to eradicate their common enemy – Abu Usman (Sajjad Delafrooz).

What Works:

Almost everything. This one is for hardcore Salman fans and people who love masala entertainers. He is in almost every frame, fighting a pack of wolves and beating or shooting the bad guys as if it’s a piece of cake. At one point he kills nearly two hundred terrorists and not even a single bullet hits him – something that only Bhai can pull off convincingly. The story, too, is engaging and there are a few surprises with regards to Kaif’s and Paresh Rawal’s characters. Ali Abbas Zafar is getting better with each film. He may have had a rough start with Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Gunday but with Sultan and now Tiger Zinda Hai, he shows promise. Katrina Kaif gets a solid part to play instead of just being eye candy. She single-handedly executes a rescue mission in which there are many hand-to-hand combats. Tiger Zinda Hai has just three songs, one of which plays when the end credits roll. This helps in keeping you engrossed as there are no unnecessary distractions.

What Could Have Been Better:

Besides the runtime of two hours forty-one minutes, there's nothing to complain about.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

If you are a Salman Khan fan, you don't need any convincing to watch Tiger Zinda Hai. He is back in form and how! Khan shows that there's nothing he cannot do. For the rest, there's still a lot to enjoy. Dhamakedaar action, catchy songs, and a whole lot of emotion – that's what Tiger Zinda Hai offers. There are two long weekends, so make time to watch this one.
