Background & Story

Sanjay Leela Bhansali claimed he had three dream projects he wanted to make in his life. Well, he made two of them – Black and Bajirao Mastani, and is currently filming the third one – Padmavati. If some fringe elements had their way, they would like the name of the movie to be changed, but that request has been declined. After the attack on the sets in Jaipur, though, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has promised that there will be no dream sequences or romantic scenes between the lead characters – Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji – that were to be filmed in the first place. This is sad news for fans of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, who play the two characters in the film, as they won’t get to see them as a couple in the movie. In fact, the actress might share some romantic moments with Shahid Kapoor, who plays the role of Padmini's husband, Rawal Ratan Singh.

Padmaavat was initially an opera that Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed and was showcased to packed houses in Paris. After the positive response to the opera, he decided to turn it into a feature film. While he was quick to sign his favorites – Deepika and Ranveer, there were a number of casting problems for the third character. Most actors didn't want to play second fiddle to Bollywood's 'IT' jodi. Vicky Kaushal, who was initially going to play the part, was dropped from the project. After the Udta Punjab actor gave his nod to the film, Aditi Rao Hydari was the next actor to join the Padmaavat cast.

The release date of Padmaavat is 25th January, 2018. According to initial plans, Padmavati was supposed to hit theatres on 2nd December, 2017. But due to some difficulties, the dates were pushed to 2018.

The trailer of Padmaavat is out and it is as royal as you can expect it to be. We are looking forward to Bhansali holding a grand event for the trailer launch as he did for his last two movies, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
